What is ArchCamp?
The first attempt to explore the concept of a one-day unconference for archaeology - based on the idea of a BarCamp. Basically an opportunity for all archaeological computing people to get together and present their current ideas/theories/hare-brained schemes in a structure decided by the participants on the day.
There are no pre-accepted papers, instead the agenda and programme is decided on the morning of the ArchCamp and should theoretically be quite fluid as we go through the day.
Where is it?
ArchCamp 2006 will be held at Cafe 2001 (10-12) and The Big Chill Bar (12-onwards), both on Dray Walk (just off Brick Lane). Meeting in the foyer of the Truman Brewey, 91 Brick Lane, London.
When is it?
Saturday the 25th November - starting at 10am and finishing sometime in the evening (probably followed by curry and beer).
Will it cost?
Nothing - although people may have to buy their own lunch/tea/coffees/beer (and curry).
What do I need to do?
Come prepared to engage in a lot of discussion and also have some kind of material that you would be willing to show if its relevant to the discussion (or will start an interesting discussion). In addition we will be attempting to blog thoughts and discussions as we go through in order to preserve the proceedings for future reference later.
Come with an open mind - this is the first time we have attempted this and it may well go completely wrong - however if successful/useful it will be used as the taster for a full 2 day ArchCamp in Southampton in early 2007.
The most important thing, however, is to sign-up and show you are willing to participate (you can do this below)
